Summer is drawing to an end. Now I have golf anxiety…
As the daylight of a British summer day starts to wane, I can't help but feel a pang of anxiety about how to satisfy my golf cravings. Balancing a typical 9-to-5 job from Monday to Friday, unreliable weekend weather and various social commitments can be quite the challenge. Not forgetting that weekend tee times are more expensive and popular!
I'm curious though, am I the only one out there searching for an affordable yet comprehensive practice facility that caters to all aspects of the game?
My journey began in London and recently led me to Cambridge, but the struggle remains the same. While Toptracer provides a good experience, it's limited by the onset of darkness when the radar sensors cease to function. On the other hand, indoor options like Trackman or GCquad sims, although enticing, can be quite expensive and come with time constraints.
Then there are the more traditional, no-frills golf options that won't break the bank. However, they often leave me feeling like I'm going through the motions without any meaningful metrics to gauge my progress, am I improving or getting worse with the more reps I do? And let's face it; finding a place to practice putting, chipping, or bunker shots at an affordable golf course can be like searching for a needle in a haystack.
I've caught glimpses of what they have in Korea, and I must admit, I'm envious. They call it "indoor screen golf," and two particular options have captured my imagination. Golfzone, for instance, boasts moving terrain and various lies, including sand and rough. And then there's Backyard Golf, which offers sims, dedicated putting areas, fairways, greenside bunkers, and even a cozy coffee corner for your non-golfer partner or for those "working from home" moments when sneaking in a virtual round while also conducting your virtual meetings seems like a dream come true.
So, my burning question is: Am I alone in wanting one of these facilities in my vicinity? If you share my yearning for such a haven of golf practice, let's join forces and make it happen!
